About Ama Hospital Scheme 2023-2024
Under Ama Hospital Scheme, Odisha govt. plans to transform all 1858 public health facilities at district headquarter hospitals (DHH), sub-divisional headquarter hospitals (SDHH), community health centres (CHC) and primary health centres (PHC) level in a phased manner to be oriented towards patient comfort and care.A sum of Rs. 3,388.73 crore has been provisioned for a period of five years from 2023-24 to 2027-28 for the Ama Hospital scheme. In the first year, 149 public health facilities will be strengthened.
Components of Ama Hospital Scheme 2023-24
The major components of Ama Hospital Scheme include the following:-- Improved patient waiting area with all basic patient amenities,
- More drug distribution counters for quick dispensing of drugs,
- Hygienic toilet facilities for better patient experience,
- Attendant rest shed for stay at the facility during hospitalisation of patients
- Uniform branding, signages and prototypes within the building and campus for easy navigating within the facility.
- Online registration system for better patient management,
- Facility of providing laboratory report on phone to avoid multiple visit to hospitals,
- Aahaar Kendras for providing quality food in subsidised rate.

While presenting the Odisha Budget 2023-24, Finance Minister said "Health Care for All has been the guiding principle of our Government. It has been the dream of the Hon’ble Chief Minister to upgrade public health facilities to the standard of the best private hospitals. Towards this end, I propose to introduce a new scheme under Health Sector - AMA Hospital - which has an ambitious target to transform 147 health facilities in a record period of one year, with an outlay of Rs. 750 crore in the Budget Estimates for 2023-24".FM added "Under Ama Hospital scheme, the physical health infrastructure, basic patient amenities and service delivery system in the public health facilities, i.e. Community Health Centres, SubDistrict Hospitals and District Head Quarter Hospitals will be upgraded. In subsequent phases, all the health facilities across the State will be taken up".
