The new Nammai Kakkum 48 Scheme in TN state would ensure absolute budgetary certainty for road crash victims in the first 48 hrs critical period. Innuyir Kappom: Nammai Kaakkum - 48 Thittam in Tamil Nadu Budget 2024-25 

On 19th Feb 2024, Finance Minister presented Tamil Nadu Budget 2024-25. While delivering the budget speech, Finance Minister said "This Government is taking earnest efforts to expand the pioneering 'Innuyir Kappom: Nammai Kaakkum - 48 Thittam', which has saved invaluable human lives and has benefitted more than 2 lakh people so far. Considering the costs of treatment, the maximum threshold for availing free of cost treatment during the first 48 hours post accident will be raised from one lakh rupees rupees to two lakh rupees".

About Nammai Kakkum 48 Scheme in Tamil Nadu

Considering the burden of RTA and the unexpected unaffordable burdens come out of pocket expenditure to the family, a new life saving initiative namely NK 48 scheme has been launched by Tamil Nadu government. This aims to further reduce delays due to denial of treatment and multiple Inter facility transfers, thereby reducing mortality and morbidity to a great extent.

Under this scheme, 692 hospitals (455 private and 237 government hospitals) have been empanelled in accident prone stretches based on the top 500 accident grid and taking into account the time of transport from accident site to the nearest medical facility. 

District wise Trauma Care plan is prepared where the ambulances are mapped to the nearest empanelled hospital to reduce time delays and prevent fatalities. Service mapping of ambulances to ensure right patient is taken to the right center within the Golden hour. 88 designated treatment packages as damage control measures costing upto 1 lakhs per individual is covered on cashless basis to all kind of people affected by road traffic accidents.
