About Odisha Mamata Yojana 2024

The state govt. of Odisha has started Mamata Yojana 2024 to alleviate the issue of maternal and infant undernutrition. It is a conditional cash transfer maternity benefit scheme (state specific) for pregnant women and lactating mothers. MAMATA scheme provides monetary support to the pregnant and lactating women to enable them to seek improved nutrition and promote health seeking behaviour.

Odisha Mamata Scheme Amount

On 13 Feb 2024, Odisha government doubled the amount of the conditional cash transfer scheme for pregnant and lactating mothers to Rs. 10,000. This increase has been done after 13 years of launch of Mamata Yojana. The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said that Rs. 5,000 that was being given to pregnant and lactating mothers above the age of 19 years under Mamata Yojana has been doubled with retrospective effect from August 2023. The amount would be given in two instalments. The outstanding amount will be given to the beneficiaries between February 20 and 25.

Eligibility Criteria for Mamata Yojana in Odisha 

The scheme was launched to improve the health and nutrition status of pregnant and lactating mothers and their infants. To become eligible for receiving the money, following are the conditions:-

• A mother must register her pregnancy at an Anganwadi center, 
• She must receive iron and folic acid tablets, 
• She should have undetaken at least one antenatal check-up,
• Taking tetanus vaccine is also must
• Attendance in prenatal counseling session prior to the childbirth is also necessary

Objectives of Mamata Scheme in Odisha

• To provide partial wage compensation for pregnant and nursing mothers so that they are able to rest adequately during their pregnancy and after delivery.

• To improve mother and child care practices, especially exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding of infants

Target Coverage of Mamata Yojana in Odisha

The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) on 13th Feb 2024 announced that mothers of 13 particularly vulnerable tribal groups will be given the money for each pregnancy. Others are given this for the first two live births. Since its launch in 2011, over 60 lakh pregnant and post-natal mothers have received over Rs. 2,900 crores under this scheme (till 13th Feb 2024).
