Rajasthan government mulls to spend Rs. 215 crore during the current FY 2024-25 on education scholarship scheme to help meritorious students study in top foreign and Indian universities. The government has renamed the scheme as the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship for Academic Excellence (SVS). It was instituted by the previous Congress government under the name of the Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship for Academic Excellence.In 2021-22, when the scheme was launched, 73 students benefited from it, and over Rs. 5 crore were allocated to it. In 2023-24, the state government spent over Rs. 107 crore and the number of students who benefited from it rose to 372. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said the scholarship initiative underscored the government's dedication to empowering students through higher education.
The scholarship programme makes studying at top institutions a reality by covering living expenses, tuition fees, and additional academic expenses
About Rajasthan Swami Vivekananda Scholarship Scheme 2024
Swami Vivekananda Scholarship, replacing Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship, offers tuition, monthly expenses to 500 students. Launched by former CM Ashok Gehlot, it includes categories for studying abroad or in India, girls reservation, and specific course options.Categories of Awards
The awards under Swami Vivekananda Scholarship for Academic Excellence are divided into 2 categories:-- 300 seats - Reserved for students aiming to study abroad in the world's top 150 universities
- 200 seats - Reserved for students aiming to study in the country's top 50 institutes.
Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship scheme was launched by Rajasthan's former chief minister Ashok Gehlot in 2021 which has now been renamed to Swami Vivekananda Scholarship.
Objectives of Swami Vivekananda Scholarship for Academic Excellence
The main objectives of Swami Vivekananda Scholarship in Rajasthan are:-- To provide financial assistance to meritorious students of Rajasthan to study in top foreign universities of the world.
- To provide financial assistance to meritorious students of Rajasthan to study in top institutes of India.
- International exposure to students for their career development.
Swami Vivekananda Scholarship Scheme Rajasthan 2024 Apply Online
- Applicant to log in to RajSSO Portal (https://sso.rajasthan.gov.in/signin) using his/her SSO ID.
- If SSOID is not available then the applicant to first register on RajSSO Portal to create SSOID and update SSO Profile at first login.
- After successful authentication/login and updation of the SSO ID Profile and select the scheme name.
- Select his/her name, the bank account and fill in personal details.
- Upload required document

- Admission Letter/Offer Letter
- Fee Details letters/Documents issued by Foreign University
- Clicking the "Submit" button.
- System will submit the application and a unique Application-ID will be presented to applicant.
Eligibility Criteria for Swami Vivekananda Scholarship Scheme in Rajasthan
The notification issued on 11 March 2024 states that the only criteria to apply for the scheme is to secure admission in the listed universities/institutes. Additionally, scholorship will be given on basis of three income criteria -
- E1 for families with an annual income of up to Rs. 8 lakh,
- E2 for families with incomes between Rs. 8 and Rs. 25 lakh, and
- E3 for families with incomes above Rs. 25 lakh.
Seats Allocation in Rajasthan Swami Vivekananda Scholarship Yojana
As per the new rules, "The priority will be given to E1 category students. In case the seats remain vacant in the E1 category, they will be allocated to E2 and E3 categories". A total of 30% of seats are reserved for girls only in the E1 and E2 categories, meaning 150 seats are designated for girls.Out of the total, 22 seats are reserved for BE, B Tech, B Arch, MBBS, and BDS. The courses applicable under the scheme include Post Doctoral, PhD, Masters, and Undergraduate degrees with a maximum duration of four years. The portal will be open from April 1 until the completion of the process in four phases, ending on January 15.
"The maximum age of the applicant must be 35 years, and he/she must have Rajasthan domicile to avail the scholarship," the document stated.
