About Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin
Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G) is a flagship scheme of the Government of India that aims to provide affordable housing to the rural population. It was launched in 2016 and is an extension of the earlier Indira Awaas Yojana.
The main objective of PMAY-G is to provide financial assistance to rural households living in dilapidated houses or without proper housing facilities. The scheme aims to construct pucca houses with basic amenities for eligible beneficiaries. The government provides financial assistance in the form of a subsidy to eligible households, enabling them to build or renovate their houses.
Key features of PMAY-G Housing Scheme
- Beneficiary Selection: The beneficiaries are selected based on the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) data, which helps in identifying and prioritizing households based on various parameters such as income, occupation, and social categories.
- Financial Assistance: The eligible beneficiaries receive a direct financial assistance amount, which is shared between the central and state governments. The funds can be utilized for various housing-related purposes, including construction, renovation, and incremental housing.
- Subsidy: Beneficiaries also receive a subsidy component to make the houses more affordable. The subsidy amount varies depending on various factors like income category, location, and type of construction.
- Convergence: PMAY-G emphasizes convergence with other government schemes to ensure holistic development. It aims to integrate various components such as sanitation, electricity, clean cooking fuel, and drinking water supply into the housing projects.
- Implementation: The scheme is implemented through a participatory approach involving beneficiary identification, planning, and execution at the local level. Gram Panchayats and Rural Development agencies play a crucial role in the implementation process.
