Kerala government has launched Ayyankali Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme 2024. This AUEGS scheme aims at enhancing the livelihood security of people in urban areas by guaranteeing hundred days of wage-employment in a financial year. It includes those urban household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work.

While presenting the Kerala budget 2023-24, Finance Minister said "65 lakh labour days will be created under Ayyankali Employment Guarantee Scheme. An amount of ₹150 crore is set apart for this". AUEGS scheme aims to provide a strong, rights-based social safety net for the people in the urban areas of Kerala by giving a fall-back employment source, when other employment alternatives are scarce or inadequate.
