Ungalai Thedi Ungal Ooril Scheme in TN Budget 2024-25

On 19th February 2024, Finance Minister presented Tamil Nadu Budget 2024-25. While delivering the budget speech, FM said "With the aim of delivering services to people at their doorsteps, a new initiative called 'Makkaludan Mudhalvar' has been launched to redress public grievances in under 30 days pertaining to 13 key departments with high public interface. Under this scheme, 3.5 lakh petitions have been resolved so far".
FM added "Following this, a new scheme called 'Ungalai Thedi Ungal Ooril' has been launched recently. Under this scheme, District Collectors will set up camp in one Taluk for one day every month, conduct field visits, inspect Government Offices, and directly interact with the public to understand their needs and grievances, thereby ensuring that welfare schemes and services reach the common man without hurdles. Thus, this Government will continue to make efforts to ensure that the entire official machinery reaches out to the people in remote villages to deliver services expeditiously".

About TN Ungalai Thedi Ungal Ooril Scheme 2024

To take the government machinery close to people, CM M.K. Stalin launched Ungalai Thedi Ungal Ooril (Meeting people at their own places). As part the scheme, collectors will stay in a taluk every month to meet people and redress their grievances. The collectors will engage in field inspection in every taluk on a particular day to know the people's grievances and to ensure that the government schemes and services are reaching the people.

Already, the chief minister has chaired many meetings at the district level to review schemes and to interact with various sections of society under the scheme Kalathil Mudhalvar. "The government machinery is coming to you to resolve your grievances. We will listen to your grievances and resolve them on the spot," CM said.

The new scheme is aimed at realising the dream of former chief minister CN Annadurai who advised his partymen: "Go to the People; Live among them; Learn from them, and Serve them." The primary duty of the government machinery is to ensure that the full fruit of the schemes and projects reach people and to remove the bottlenecks if any.

The collectors are the bridges between the people and the state government. "Though officials are closer to the people, they rely on the collectors with trust and confidence. The people meet the collectors every Monday and submit petitions. The stature of collectors does not make people fear about them. Instead, it attracts the people to the collectors," CM added.
