Delhi Cabinet Approves Electricity Subsidy Scheme Expansion
On 7th March 2024, Delhi cabinet has approved the extension of electricity subsidy scheme for the financial year 2024-25. In the meeting chaired by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, it was announced that the power subsidy scheme would remain in force till 31 March 2025. CM Kejriwal and power minister Atishi alleged that the opposition has made repeated attempts to derail the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government's scheme.
Under Delhi Electricity Subsidy Scheme, the state govt. provides free electricity for a monthly consumption of up to 200 units. A 50% subsidy is also given where the consumption is between 201-400 units. The government pays ₹3,500 crore per annum for the power subsidy scheme. Commercial and industrial consumers have to pay Rs. 13 per unit in the capital.
CM Kejriwal on Free Electricity Scheme in Delhi
Hon'ble Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, said that free electricity was available only in Delhi and Punjab. "In the rest of the country, there are long power cuts and electricity bills worth thousands of rupees have to be paid. This is possible (in Delhi and Punjab) because there is a government of honest and educated people in Delhi," CM said.
Electricity Subsidy Scheme in Delhi Budget 2024-25
On 4th March 2024, Finance Minister presented Delhi Budget 2024-25. While delivering the budget speech, FM said "there are 58.86 lakh domestic electricity consumers in Delhi currently, out of which 68.33% i.e. 40.22 lakh domestic electricity consumers are getting the benefits of electricity subsidy from the Kejriwal Government. In 2023, around 3.41 crores zero electricity bills were issued to consumers. We will continue this subsidy scheme this year also".Finance Minister added "AAP government has been fulfilling this promise of providing free electricity upto 200 units for the past nine years. Delhiites who use less than two hundred units of power are getting zero electricity bills".

Residents of the national capital can get the electricity subsidy only if they apply for it. This means the power subsidy will no longer be available by default. Addressing a press conference, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said people can now give a missed call or send a WhatsApp message on 7011311111 to avail free electricity scheme.
Option to opt in for power subsidy will be carried out once every year i.e people will have to fill this form 1 time in a particular year to continue getting electricity bill subsidy. - Then opt-in form for subsidy will be given on WhatsApp.
- Scan the QR code on the subsidy form provided along with your latest BSES bill.
- Click on the SMS link received on your registered mobile number with BSES.
- After doing this, you will get a message that the subsidy on their electricity bill is active.
- Through Registered Mobile Number - Those electricity connections having registered mobile numbers will also get forms from the government to opt for subsidy.
- By Delhi State Government - People will get this form with their next electricity bill and they can submit the form at their designated collection centre for paying electricity bills.
- Through Offline Mode - You can also apply for power subsidy offline by filling up a form attached with your power bill and submitting it at designated collection centres.

- Once you enter the CA number, then Delhi Electricity Subsidy Scheme Form PDF will open.
- Please select from one of the given options. It will then ask to confirm details, whether it is correct or not.

Delhi Electricity Subsidy Scheme Apply using Call on Helpline Number

But we repeat our demand that all consumers, be it residential or commercial, should be given the first 200 units free of charge"."The allegations are atrocious... on one hand the Delhi government claims to give 200 units free to a section of the society but on the other hand most commercial, industrial and even residential consumers are forced to buy electricity at the highest rates in North India. While industrial users of Delhi have to pay ₹13 per unit, their counterparts in Haryana pay a maximum of ₹8.5 per unit.
