WB Yogyashree Scheme Extension to OBC, General & Students From Minorities
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asserted that "Yogyashree" scheme designed to offer free-of-cost training to SC/ST students of the state for admission in engineering and medical courses would now be extended to boys and girls of Minority, OBC and General categories also. CM Mamata Banerjee said, "We are proud that our Yogyashree scheme, which we started to provide completely free-of-cost training to SC/ST students of the state for admission in engineering and medical courses, has been yielding increasingly greater and greater benefits for our SC/ST boys & girls. Now we shall also include the boys and girls of OBC and General categories in this scheme."
The hon'ble CM further said that training would be provided from Class onwards for better preparation. She added that "In 2024 alone these Yogyashree trainees got 23 ranks (including 13 IIT seats) in JEE (Advanced), 75 ranks in JEE (Main), 432 ranks in WBJEE, and 110 ranks in NEET. These achievements in these tough competitive examinations are better than even the earlier years' results. In consideration of the value of this critical training support to our disadvantaged boys and girls, we have increased the number of centres in the State now to 50 and number of our supported trainees to 2000 and the training will be given from Class XI onwards for better preparation."
She emphasised this scheme would bring out engineers and doctors in large numbers from the weaker section of the society. "Let our boys and girls from the weaker sections be engineers and doctors in larger numbers. We shall now include students of Minority, OBC, and General categories in this scheme. Kudos to them!," she further posted on X.
About Yogyashree Scheme 2024 in West Bengal
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee introduced a free training module for the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students in West Bengal for various entrance and competitive examinations under the name of "Yogyashree", a new social welfare scheme.
She introduced a toll free anti-ragging number for students and said notification should be put up in all colleges and universities.

The Yogyashree scheme was launched by the Chief Minister on 8 January 2024 at a programme in Kolkata. CM Mamata Banerjee said, "50 centres will be opened all across the state where the SC and ST students will be able to take training completely free of cost for competitive examinations. Similarly, 46 centres will offer free training to the SC & ST students for students aspiring for government jobs, civil services etc".
She also started a student's internship programme where 2500 students will be receiving such internships. "West Bengal is first in primary education. Jadavpur and Calcutta University have topped as the two top universities in the country," Banerjee said.

How to Make WB Yogyashree Scheme 2024 Registration
Just like other free taining schemes, SC and ST students shall require to apply online for Yogyasree scheme. The West Bengal govt. may invite Yogyashree Scheme 2024 registration form at https://www.wbbcdev.gov.in/ or a new dedicated portal. Since the scheme has just been announced and no formal notification / guidelines have been released, so registration process is not confirmed.

CM Speech on Yogyashree Prakalpa Launch
While launching the Yogyasree Prakalpa scheme, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said "India is currently going through one of the toughest phases in terms of employment due to Modi Government policies. Besides lakhs of layoffs, recent graduates are finding it difficult to get a decent job. Adding to woes, Indian wages are at rock bottom with negligible increase during Modi regime; arguably 3rd lowest in Asia in USD PPP terms as per Wikipedia list".She added "For the first time ever, IIM Bangalore had the case of 20% students being unplaced and even other IIMs, IITs, BITS, Tier-1 institutes facing lack of suitable opportunities for student community. While Modi, Sitharaman and the like are busy fudging data, making false claims and blaming everyone from Nehru to USA, West Bengal govt. is taking steps to build solutions".
WB chief minister spoke about the various social welfare schemes introduced by students, including Kanyasree, Sabuj Sathi and WB Student's Credit Card scheme. She also claimed that her government teaches English from Class I. "Earlier, during the Left Front regime, English was not taught in schools but now we have started teaching English from Class I and also set up English medium schools," Banerjee said.
