Karnataka government has launched Matsya Asha Kiran Scheme 2024 to provide crucial support to fishermen during the annual fishing ban period. Under this scheme, the state govt's share in compensation to fishermen affected by seasonal ban on fishing is Rs. 3000. Matsya Asha Kiran Scheme in Karnataka Budget 2024-25

On 16th February 2024, Finance Minister presented Karnataka Budget 2024-25. While presenting the budget, FM said "Under Matsya Asha Kiran scheme, the state share in compensation to fishermen affected by seasonal ban on fishing is proposed to be increased from Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 3,000".

Karnataka Matsya Asha Kiran Yojana Objective

The fishers eke out their livelihood through fishing in Marine/ Fresh water bodies. Unlike terrestrial activities, the fishing activity in coastal waters and inland water bodies cannot be carried out for the entire year. During this period, fishermen faces difficulty in earning even for their basic neccessities.

To ensure fishermen meet their basic livelihood requirements, Karnataka govt. has launched Matsya Asha Kirana scheme. Through this scheme, the state govt. will provide financial assistance to fishermen for the fishing ban period when they cannot do fishing in the coastal waters, inland water bodies or seas.

• Applicant must be a permanent resident of the Karnataka state.
• Applicant must be a registered fisherman.
• Applicant must not be carrying out any fishing activity during the fishing ban period.
