Gujarat government has announced to start implementation of Namo Lakshmi Yojana 2024 soon. Under this scheme, the state govt. will provide financial assistance of Rs. 50,000 to girls in class 9th to 12th. The main objective is to target universal enrolment in secondary education by offering financial aid. Under the 'Namo Lakshmi Yojana', the government will provide Rs. 50,000 over a period of four years to girls wanting to take admission in Classes 9 to 12 for the academic year 2024-25. This scheme is applicable to girls whose family income is less than Rs. 6 lakh per annum, said the release.
The beneficiary students, after securing admission in Class 9, will receive Rs 500 per month for 10 months each year, and the remaining Rs 10,000 will be disbursed after they pass the Class 10 board exam, it said. Students in Classes 11 and 12 will receive Rs 750 per month for 10 months each year, and Rs 15,000 will be given after they clear the Class 12 board exam, the release said. The scheme will cover girls studying in government, aided and private schools.
The 'Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana' aims to encourage students to opt for the science stream and excel in it, said the release. Students in Classes 11 and 12 who have opted for science will receive Rs. 1,000 per month for 10 months, totalling Rs. 20,000 over two years, and the remaining Rs. 5,000 will be disbursed after they pass the Class 12 board exam.
The aid amount under both the schemes for June and July months will be credited to the bank account of the student's mother or the pupil's own account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer), said the release.
Under the Namo Lakshmi Yojana, adolescent girls studying in government, granted and private schools from classes 9 to 12 will be given Rs 50,000 over the four years - Rs 10,000 annually in classes 9 and 10, and Rs. 15,000 per year in classes 11 and 12 - to complete their education.
Similarly, Rs 15,000 per annum for classes 11 and 12 will be transferred in monthly instalments of Rs 750 for 10 months based on attendance, while the remaining 50% will be credited to their accounts after they clear the Class 12 board exam.
The budget for school education under the sector has also risen over the same period, with the current allocation more than double of that in the 2018-19 budget. The school education budget has increased from Rs 23,897 crore to Rs 49,295 crore in the past seven years.
Namo Lakshmi Yojana Latest Update
Nearly 4.37 lakh girls have registered to avail benefits under two schemes launched by the Gujarat government in March to provide financial assistance to eligible female students from classes 9 to 12. Finance Minister presented Gujarat Budget 2024-2025 on 2 February 2024 in which FM announced to start 2 new schemes namely Namo Saraswati and Namo Lakshmi Yojana. Objective of Namo Lakshmi Yojna 2024
The main aim of this scheme are to increase enrolment, to reduce dropouts, and also to improve the nutritional status of adolescent girls. Moreover, with the implementation of this scheme, the state will be able to achieve universal enrolment in secondary education just as the state has achieved universal enrolment in primary education. According to the education department, Rs. 10,000 per annum for class 9 and 10 will be disbursed as Rs. 500 monthly for 10 months based on attendance. The balance 50% will be credited to the account after they clear the Class 10 board exam.Similarly, Rs 15,000 per annum for classes 11 and 12 will be transferred in monthly instalments of Rs 750 for 10 months based on attendance, while the remaining 50% will be credited to their accounts after they clear the Class 12 board exam.
Eligibility Criteria for Namo Lakshmi Yojana in Gujarat
- All girls who have completed Class 8 and enrolled in Class 9 in government and aided schools will be covered under the scheme.
- However, for girls in private schools, the government has set a family income cap of Rs. 6 lakh per annum.
It is worth noting that Namo Lakshmi Yojana will be available as an additional benefit to the students covered under Namo Saraswati Merit Scholarship.
Salient Features of Namo Lakshmi Yojna
- Girls studying in Class 9th and Class 10th will get Rs. 10,000 assistance per annum.
- Girls studying in Class 11th and Class 12th will get Rs. 15,000 assistance per annum.
- Thus, each girl will get a total amount of Rs. 50,000 over the duration of 4 years i.e class 9th to 12th.
- To avail Namo Lakshmi Yojana benefit, all girls who have completed Class 8th and enrolled in Class 9th in govt/govt-aided schools will be covered.

Meanwhile, the allocation for the education sector, comprising school, and higher and technical education, has seen a gradual rise over the past seven years. With Rs. 55,114 crore set aside for the sector, the allocation has nearly doubled from the Rs 27,500 crore provisioned in the 2018-19 budget.
