Telangana govt. has taken significant strides to expedite implementation of Gruha Jyothi Scheme. As a part of Congress 6 Guarantee Schemes, TS state govt. aims to roll out free electricity scheme (griha jyoti) from 1st week of February 2024. Gruha Jyothi Scheme in Telangana Budget 2024-25

On 10th February 2024, Finance Minister presented Telangana Budget 2024-25. While presenting the budget, FM said "Two other important promises of our government are, supply of LPG cylinder @ Rs. 500/- and under Gruha Jyothi scheme, 200 units of free electricity per month to all eligible consumers. The Council of Ministers in its meeting on 4th February, 2024 has approved implementation of both these schemes. Very soon, the modalities for implementation will be finalised and schemes will be rolled out. Further, our government is committed to implement Rythu Bharosa, Indiramma houses, Cheyutha and Yuva Vikasam. We are committed to implement them at the earliest".

FM added "The Government already decided to introduce Gruha Jyothi scheme to supply 200 units of free power to the eligible families and steps are being taken to implement it. The government is proposing Rs. 2,418 crores, for this scheme in this budget".

About Telangana Gruha Jyothi Scheme 2024

Rahul Gandhi made the announcement to start the Telangana Gruha Jyothi Scheme. Congress party released their election manifesto (Abhaya Hastham) on September 18, 2023, and this plan is included in it. Under this plan, the party has pledged to provide 200 units free electricity for all households.

The Telangana state govt. will provide electricity subsidy to ensure that power bills of people becomes zero if they use less than two hundred units of electricity every month.

Objectives of Telangana Gruha Jyoti Scheme

• The Gruha Jyothi Scheme's primary goal is to give free electricity to citizens.
• As per the plan, each beneficiary would be entitled to 200 units of free electricity every month.

Eligibility Criteria for Telangana Griha Jyoti Scheme

The applicants applying for the scheme must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

• The candidate must live in Telangana permanently.
• All the households using upto 200 units of electricity per month are eligible.
• Application form is must to be filled by citizens to get benefits of Gruha Jyothi scheme.
• Only individuals who have settled their electricity bills for the past 2 months i.e December 2023 and January 2024 are eligible for the scheme. 
• No arrears in electricity bills during this period are a prerequisite for availing the benefits.
