Andhra Pradesh government has started AP Jagananna Chedodu Scheme 2023 in the state. In this scheme, the state govt. will provide Rs. 10,000 per annum to occupational groups. These includes people from nayee brahmins, rangrej and rajaka caste. Their respective occupational groups are hair dressing (barbers / naayi), tailoring / needling and laundry (washermen). CM Jagan Mohan Reddy has marked the official launch of this scheme.
This assistance under AP Jagan Anna Chedodu Scheme 2023 is required for occupational category people to survive in the growing competition. These people who depend on daily earnings can sustain their livelihood with the assistance amount and lead a life of dignity and honour. As it was a pre-poll promise of the CM YS Jagan led YSRCP government, so the state govt. is implementing this scheme.

AP Jagananna Chedodu 3rd Installment (Recent Update)

CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy disbursed the financial assistance under Jagananna Chedodu Scheme in Vinukonda district on 30 January 2023. The state govt. is extending financial assistance of Rs. 10,000 to the poor tailors, barbers and washermen. This is the third year in a row for AP govt. to extended aid to poor artisans. Around 3.3 lakh people who are engaged in tailoring, barber and washing professions received benefit under Chedodu scheme.

CM Jagan disbursed Rs. 330 crore for the benefit of the poor people from nayee brahmins, rangrej and rajaka caste. The total financial assistance extended under the scheme reaches around Rs.927 crore with the latest spell disbursement.
AP govt. has eliminate the scope for corruption in extending financial assistance to the poor through welfare schemes by moving to the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). About 1,67,951 tailors who have been operating shops received Rs. 167.95 crore, 1,14,661 washer men or women operating the laundry shops received Rs. 114.66 crore and 47,533 nayee Brahmins who are running saloons received Rs. 47.53 crore benefit through the scheme.

Jagananna Chedodu Progress Report

  • 2020-2021 - Around 2.98 lakh people got Rs. 298 crore benefit in the year 2020-21.
  • 2021-2022 - Around 2.99 lakh people got Rs. 299 crore benefit in the year 2021-22.
  • 2022-2023 - The beneficiaries number went upto 3.3 lakh in 2022-23 taking financial assistance to Rs. 330 crore.

Benefits to Citizens in YSR Chedodu Scheme

The people from the 3 castes who are Jagananna Chedodu Scheme beneficiaries constitute over 16% of the entire AP population (as per the official data). Accordingly to benefit such a mass section of society, CM is going to launch Jagan Anna Chedodu Scheme 2023 to give them assistance of Rs. 10,000 per annum. 

All the beneficiaries can utilize this money for growing their own business or for any other personal use. It is the first-of-its-kind initiative in India where assistance is given to occupational category people for their welfare. 

Financial Assistance to Nayee Brahmins, Rajakas and Tailors

Financial Assistance of 10000 (Ten Thousand Rupees only) Per year will be provided to the Nayee Brahmins, Rajakas and Tailors in BC Community. The following constitute eligible list of Chedodu scheme beneficiaries:-

Nayee Brahmins

Those who belongs to Nayee Brahmin Community who involved in the profession of Barber having a permanent or Mobile establishment on his name are eligible for getting financial assistance. They should be in Below Poverty Line Category and should have white Ration Card. They should have registered shop.

Rajakas

Those who should have belonged to Rajaka Community who are involved in the profession dhobi having permanent or mobile establishment on his or her name are eligible for getting financial assistance. They should be in Below Poverty Line Category and should have white Ration Card. They should have registered shop.

Tailors

All the BC Community People who are involved in the profession of Tailoring having a permanent establishment or mobile establishment are eligible for getting financial assistance. They should be in Below Poverty Line Category and should have white Ration Card. They should have registered shop.

How to Apply For AP Jagananna Chedodu Scheme

Jagananna Chedodu Scheme is a state implemented scheme. Identification of beneficiaries will be done through the Navasakam surveys conducted by the village or ward volunteers across the state. Social Welfare Department is the implementing agency at the state / district level.

Jagananna Chedodu Scheme Eligibility Criteria

  • Age of less than 60 years
  • Rajakas/Dhobis (Washermen) of the state
  • Nayee Brahmin (Barbers) having their own establishment
  • Tailors belonging to the Backward Class (BC), Extremely Backward Classes (EBC) category and Kapu Community
People engaged in hair dressing, tailoring or laundry business generally requires money to purchase their working tools for which they have to borrow money from the market. This money comes at a huge interest rate from market. So, to ensure that people from the above mentioned 3 castes does not falls into debt trap, the govt. has started AP Jagananna Chedodu Scheme 2023.
