Antyodaya Shramik Suraksha Yojana pilot project launched from Nadia of Kheda district by Gujarat CM Bhupesh Baghel and Union Minister of State for Communications. It is basically an accident insurance scheme launched on 8 July 2023 to provide the financial assistance to the labourers and their family in case of any accident happen to them at the work place. 

The antyodaya shramik suraksha yojna is a first-of-its-kind initiative launched for the welfare of labourers across the entire country. It would typically cover a range of accidental incidents, such as workplace injuries and other unforeseen accidents happened to labourers.  The accident insurance scheme coverage will include medical expenses, hospitalization costs, rehabilitation expenses, disability benefits, and death benefits.

Indian Postal Department, the Indian Post Payment Banks and the Ministry of Labor and Employment would be responsible for the implementation of Antyodaya Shramik Suraksha Yojna. The pilot project of the antyodaya shramik suraksha yojna aims to benefit labourers and after seeing its results, it would be extended to the entire country.

Antyodaya Shramik Suraksha Yojana is type of insurance policy that provides coverage to labourers for financial losses or medical expenses resulting from accidental injuries. It is designed to provide financial protection and support to workers in the event of accidents that may lead to bodily injury, disability, or death.   • Pan India Coverage: Post the successful pilot launch, the scheme will be rolled out pan India to cover over 28 Crore+ shramiks. This nationwide coverage will ensure that every shramik, regardless of their geographical location can avail the benefits.
The insurance plan recommended below has capital benefits and allied/ additional value-added benefits meeting the needs of the labour workforce of our nation. Capital benefits are linked to death and disability on account of accidents. Objectives of Accident Insurance Scheme

The primary objective of the Antyodaya Shramik Suraksha Yojana is to give priority to the welfare and safety of our Shram Yogis so that they can get financial security in case of an accident happen to them at the work place.

Its aim is to remember the contribution and dedication to the laborers in India’s development and provide them with necessary social security.

Government's Data for Antyodaya Shramik Suraksha Yojna

Data of 28 crore workers of India will be collated so that they can be covered under the Antyodaya Shramik Suraksha Scheme.

Union Minister of State for Communication assured the CM that one lakh poor families of Kheda district will get the benefit of this scheme within 60 days.

Benefits Provided under Accident Insurance Scheme

  • Under this scheme, accident insurance with a premium of Rs. 289 and Rs. 499 per year will provide the financial support to workers in the event of death or partial disability.
  • In case of the laborer's accidental death or permanent disability, Rs. 10 lakh will be given to their family.
  • In case of death, the deceased children will be eligible for education assistance of Rs. 1 lakh.

  • Accidental Death Benefit: A lump sum payment of Rs. 10 lakh or Rs. 5 Lakh (as per opted plan) would be provided to the designated beneficiary in the event of the insured person's death due to an accident.
  • Permanently Disability Benefit: Compensation of Rs. 10 lakh or Rs. 5 lakh (as per opted plan) would be provided if the insured person becomes permanently disabled or loses bodily functions as a result of an accident.
  • Medical Expenses: There is also coverage for medical treatment, hospitalization, and related expenses arising from accidental injuries.
  • Ambulance Expenses: Coverage includes emergency medical transportation by ambulance to the nearest hospital or medical facility.
  • Educational Benefit: In case of death of a labourer at workplace, the children of laborer will get education assistance of Rs. 1 lakh.
  • Temporary or Partial Disablement Benefit: Compensation would also be given for temporary or partial disabilities occuring to a worker due to an accident, such as loss of limbs or senses.
